APhA Presents Baeteena Black with Hugo H. Schaefer Award

During APhA’s Annual Meeting & Exposition in San Diego in March, Baeteena M. Black, DPh, received the prestigious Hugo H. Schaefer Award for her many contributions to the profession of pharmacy and her commitment to serving both pharmacists and patients in Tennessee. Dr. Black retired in December, after more than 20 years as Executive Director of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association. Still serving TPA, now as Executive Director Emerita, she was presented the APhA Hugo H. Schaefer Award in recognition of her outstanding voluntary contributions to the organization, the profession, and society.
“Receiving this award is the greatest professional honor of my career,” Dr. Black stated when accepting the award. “I am so blessed to have been supported throughout my life by amazing family, friends, colleagues, and leaders in pharmacy who have greatly contributed to what is described as ‘my’ success. Any success I had was always the result of a team effort. Today, as I receive this award, I especially thank staff and colleagues in TPA and NASPA for all your support through the years. I share this award with you.
“My passion for pharmacy continues, and I am committed to ongoing efforts to advance the profession of pharmacy. I wish you all the best in your continuing careers and service. Keep up the good work. This is my super bowl trophy, and I thank you again for this tremendous honor.”
