TPA Summer Meeting 2016 | Activities & Events



We hope you’re planning to bring your spouse, children and other guests to this year’s Summer Meeting! We’ve put together a schedule of events to keep everyone active and entertained. Click the dates below to see some of the special activities offered for the entire family on each day of the TPA Summer Meeting. Then, check out the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort for even more ways to enjoy yourself!

Grand Fun CampThe Grand Hotel Marriott offers the Grand Fun Camp for children ages 5 to 12. Two sessions are available each day: from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Central) and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Central). The cost is $35 per child, per session. Lunch or dinner meals are included in the rate. Please call the Concierge Department at 251-928-9201 ext. 6721 to make your reservations at least 12 hours prior to the session. Cancellations must be made 6 hours prior to scheduled session. A cancellation fee of $25 will be charged to the room account if not cancelled 6 hours in advance.

Make your appointment at The Spa at the Grand Hotel Marriott, known as one of the most luxurious spa resorts in Alabama. Their relaxing treatments include massages, body scrubs, a steam room and facials. You’ll find a listing of all services offered on the hotel’s website. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

Inshore Fishing [Pre-registration required] Hotel Marina
Point Clear is in the middle of the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, which offers some of the best fishing within miles of the Grand Hotel Marriott. Enjoy a fun and relaxing morning fishing for speckled trout!

You’ll be picked up at the hotel’s marina at 6:00 in the morning and returned there after a four-hour trip, in a 23’ Ranger Bay boat with a Yamaha 300hp for your comfort and safety. Captain Kevin Olmstead, a native of Mobile Bay and a USCG licensed charter captain and fishing guide, is dedicated to making your fishing trip as enjoyable as possible. Provided for your excursion are ice, live bait, tackle, fuel, fishing license, snacks, beverages, and cleaning and bagging all fish at the end of the trip.

Lakewood Golf Club
Join your colleagues for a fun day on the golf course! Be sure to arrive early and support our student pharmacists by purchasing your mulligans. A continental breakfast lunch and beverage tickets are included, and prizes will be awarded. The tournament will be held at the Lakewood Club which is directly across the street from the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort. Complimentary shuttle service is available from the hotel lobby entrance, or you may drive your own vehicle. Self-parking is complimentary, or valet parking is available for $7.

The Lakewood Golf Club is a resort member of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Rolling fairways, tight greens, spring-fed lakes, meandering streams and stands of mature trees make the 36 holes of Lakewood both beautiful and challenging. Join us for a one-of-a-kind golf experience!

10:15AM – 3:00PMFun in Fairhope ~ Alliance Members Outing [Pre-registration required] The bus will pick up at the main building hotel lobby entrance. We will begin loading at 10:00 and depart at 10:15.
 _________The TPA Alliance will enjoy a trip to downtown Fairhope, which sits atop the bluff across the bay from Mobile. We will leave the hotel for a downtown historic/scenic driving tour, followed by a guided tour of The Mosher Castle, lunch at Mary Ann’s at the fabulous Windmill Market, a visit to Tom Jones Pottery with Tom at the wheel, followed by mounds of samples to enjoy at the Punta Clara Candy Kitchen. Upon arrival back at the hotel, we will enjoy a 30-minute historic Point Clear District walking Boardwalk tour.

The TPA Alliance, established in 1905 as the TPA Auxiliary, functions as part of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association Research and Education Foundation (TPREF). This is our non-profit, volunteer, service organization, and its members include family and friends of pharmacy professionals. If you are not a member of the Alliance and would like to join, annual dues are $25, which go to increasing interest in the pharmacy profession as well as encouraging and supporting the members of the Tennessee Society of Student Pharmacists for all schools and colleges of pharmacy in Tennessee.

This annual tradition of the TPA Summer Meeting provides an opportunity for TPA Past Presidents and Veterans (in practice 25+ years) to share their experiences and lessons learned.

Put on your favorite Hawaiian attire and join us for a luau dinner, entertainment, dancing and fun! This will be the perfect way to end what’s sure to be another successful TPA summer meeting! Our reception will begin at 6:00, followed by dinner at 6:30 and interactive entertainment by Mr. Big and the Rhythm Sisters at 7:30.
