Information
David Pope, PharmD, CDM, CDE, received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Georgia. He currently practices at Barney’s Pharmacy, an independent pharmacy in Augusta, GA, where he serves as director of the Diabetes and Wellness Center. He is also the co-owner of Hope Medical Center, a faith-based family practice office, and serves as editor-in-chief and creator of CreativePharmacist.com and TheHealthyHeartClub.com. Dr. Pope teaches diabetes, cardiovascular risk reduction, and personal care home classes throughout the year, and is the Program Coordinator for their American Diabetes Association (ADA)-recognized diabetes self-management education program. He has consulted with many independent pharmacies, as well as pharmacy wholesalers, including Cardinal Health. He serves on the advisory board for Prodigy Diabetic Meters. He currently has three publications, two with America’s Pharmacist Magazine, one of which was the feature article for the April 2010 edition. Dr. Pope was also recently profiled in a landmark cover story on pharmacy practice in the New York Times and recently received the National Association of Pharmacies’ Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award for 2010. He has written CE for a Cardiovascular Risk Reduction program through Presbyterian College of Pharmacy. In addition, Dr. Pope assists with Medication Therapy Management and immunizations for over 2,000 patients each year. He is also an ambulatory care preceptor for the University of South Carolina and the University of Georgia. He is a member of the Georgia Pharmacy Association (GPhA), National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), and Kappa Psi.
